Rolfing is a deep powerful massage
designed to soften the collagenous fascias of the body. It was first
developed by American biochemist, Ida Rolf, in the 1940's and '50's.
The practitioner applies his/her weight through fingers, knuckles
and elbows reaching into body areas to loosen and realign the musculature
and its supports. Misalignment is corrected session by session.
Rolfing is useful for treating
posture and musculo-skeletal pains and tensions, and for unearthing
deep seated emotions buried in the fascia of the muscles, which
can then be integrated through the massage. It is helpful in modulating
voice, breath control, attitude to self and mood.
