Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis
to encourage healing and well-being. Hypnotherapists, usually
trained counsellors, induce a state of consciousness akin to deep
daydreaming, in which the patient is deeply relaxed and open to
suggestion and can be desensitized to fears, phobias or pain. A
person cannot be hypnotised against his or her will.
Hypnosis is a naturally occuring phemonemon
- daydreaming, watching TV, listening to music and gazing into a
fire are all examples of this trance state which we are all familiar
with.
Hypnotherapists tap into our
natural ability to go into trance and uses this state to change
or explore unhelpful or distressing thoughts or behaviour patterns
lodged in our subconscious minds, and help us to change these to
something more useful either in healing your mind and emotions or
physical problems.
