The ear has traditionally been regarded
of great importance in Traditional
Chinese Medicine since it is thought to be crossed by all the
major meridians of the body. According to Chinese medical theory
there are 120 acupoints on each ear relating to different parts
of the body. The practitioner studies the ear in great detail, testing
for sensitivity and observing the colour and condition of the skin.
Then he/she might apply gentle pressure to the appropriate acupoints
with the hands or using tiny needles, a very mild electrical current,
a laser or infrared light. During treatment, a tingling or dull
sensation might be felt at that point on the ear, and may also be
felt in the corresponding part of the body.
