Autumn Survival - Herbs and Homeopathy

After a long, hot Summer with many taking holidays abroad here are some remedies to help ease you into the new Autumn-Winter season:

Travel sickness: Lavender, Ginger or Fennel essential oils placed on a handkerchief and the aroma inhaled deeply will help. Also chewing ginger root or crystallized ginger. A Homeopathic combination of Cocc30/Tab30/Petr30 is very effective.

Overindulgence

Hangovers - If you know you will be drinking large amounts of alcohol take one Nux Vom 30 Homeopathic remedy one hour before you start. This should minimise hangover problems; otherwise take Nux Vom 30 hourly the next day until the hangover symptoms disappear.
Rich food - for Indigestion from over-indulgence, and the stomach feels swollen take Nux Vom 30; for indigestion a few hours after eating rich fatty foods take Pulsatilla 30. Take hourly until symptoms disappear.
Food Poisoning - With diarrhoea and vomiting take Arsen Alb 30 every 30 minutes until the symptoms disappear. A warm bath with Chamomile and Ginger essential oils, or a warm compress of these oils placed on the abdomen, may also help.

Seasonal Affective Disorder

Look at raising your Serotonin levels which can ease the depression associated with Seasonal Affective Disorder - a mood disorder associated with falling light levels as Autumn and Winter draws on. Increase your intake of foods containing the amino acid Tryptophan (a precursor of Serotonin) - found in chicken, turkey, bananas and cottage cheese. Also consider taking a course of St Johns Wort - found to be very effective in relieving the mild to moderate depression associated with SAD. Light therapy has been shown to be very helpful.
