Multiple Sclerosis
Multiple Sclerosis is a progressive
degenerative disease that results when the myelin sheath (the protective
fatty tissue enveloping nerves) becomes inflamed. Myelin sheath
is not only protective but also is involved in message transmission
along the nerve, so the inflammation results in a number of nerve
problems.
Symptoms include blurred
vision, and slurred speech,
and motor neurone difficulties, including loss of co-ordination
and paralysis. This can lead to bladder, mental, emotional, speech
and sexual problems.
The causes of MS are unknown
but genetics may be involved, or viral infection.
