Kidney Stones
Kidney Stones are formed when
minerals in the urine crystallise into stones in the kidney and
bladder. These can cause excruciating pain, and sometimes even kidney
failure.
Kidney Stones can be caused by
inadequate fluid intake, nutritional problems such as gout, too
much animal protein or Calcium in the diet, or kidney infection.
If the stones are small they can be
treated by ultrasound, which break them up into smaller pieces that
can then be passed in the urine. If they are larger, however, surgery
might be suggested to remove them.
However, there are a variety of complementary
treatments which many help in the recurrence of stones and some
use substances that help to break them down.
Tip: if the stones are found
to be caused by excess Calcium, a nutritional therapist will recommend
use of Magnesium, Vitamin B6, Lysine and Vitamin A to lower levels
of Calcium.
