Fibroids
Fibroids are non malignant growths
in or on the wall of the uterus.
They can be symptomless, but if large
they can cause heavy menstrual bleeding, cramps, back pain, and
pressure on the bladder or bowel.
Fibroids are thought to be related
to high oestrogen levels and may be made worse by taking the oral
contraceptive.
Fibroids may be surgically removed
if inability to conceive is a problem, or if they are bleeding so
heavily as to cause anaemia. Very large Fibroids might have
to be removed via hysterectomy.
Tip: herbal medicine aims to
give herbs to balance the hormones that are thought to be responsible
for the growth of fibroids.
