Anorexia NervosaAnorexia
nervosa is an eating disorder. It is a psychological problem leading to extreme
weight loss and amenorrhea (loss of menstruation). Sufferers are terrified of
becoming fat and are obsessed with losing weight. It
usually starts in the mid-teens and is far more common amongst women affecting
1 in every 150 teenage girls. Sufferers need psychological counselling to cope
with the problem which is often related to an inability to come to terms with
sexual maturity with all its implications. Other
symptoms apart from weight loss and amenorrhea include constipation, insomnia,
cramps, increased body hair, dizziness, sensitivity to cold, and depression. The
following complementary therapies are used in the treatment of Anorexia nervosa:
Acupuncture,
