Alzheimer's Disease

Alzheimer's Disease is a progressive degenerative disease of the brain. It is thought to be caused by either genetic factors or environmental toxins such as aluminium or mercury poisoning. Patients, usually over 60, suffer from disorientation, memory loss, emotional swings and possibly aggression.

As the disease progresses dementia sets in and the sufferer might become bedridden and incontinent, in which case total care is needed.

This disease is very distressing for family members or loved ones as patients may not recognise them. Long term events might be remembered whereas short term memory is severely impaired. Self-help:Increase the patient's intake of Vitamins B6 and C.
