Hydrotherapy is the therapeutic
use of water to promote healing. Water is used internally and externally
- in the form of hot and cold, liquid, steam or ice - to cleanse,
revitalise, restore and maintain health. It is used as a treatment
in health spas and farms and is used routinely in the practise of
Naturopathy. The treatments used
include: high-powered jets, whirlpool baths, sitz baths, hot and
warm baths, sea-water treatments, compresses, stream room and saunas.
The effect of using water, in all its different forms, stimulates
the hormonal system, reduces circulatory congestion caused by muscular
tension, and relieves inflammation.
