Along with Acupuncture,
Chinese Herbal Medicine makes up the system of traditional
chinese medicine which dates back some 3500 years. Chinese medicine
believes in 2 equal but opposite life forces: "yin" (female,
receptive, dark, cold, unconscious), and "yang" (male,
active, light, hot, conscious). The interaction between these two
forces gives rise to the "life force" or Qi. Qi must flow
freely in the body for health. Any blockage or imbalance in the
Qi results in ill health. Chinese Herbal Medicine aims to
restore the balance through the use of herbal remedies. Each herb
has a particular attribute or "inclination" and it is
the manipulation of these inclinations that bring about balance.
