Sinusitis

The sinuses are cavities in the facial bones. Lined with mucous membranes they surround the nose and are joined to the nasal cavity.

Acute sinusitis occurs when an infection of the throat or nose spreads to the sinuses - the cavities in the bones beneath the eyes - and can be very painful. Infection, inflammation, and excess mucus can block the sinuses. Severe pain can result in the forehead, upper jaw and cheekbones.

Symptoms often improve after a few days but the treatments below can be used to fight any underlying infection, reduce mucus production and clear blocked sinuses.

Tip: ayurvedic medicine recommends that you put a dab of sesame oil at the entrance to each nostril, to clear blocked sinuses.
